From 2005 to 2008, Tomtom and Garmin were made in the shade. They had the technology to turn even the worst co-pilot (my girlfriend) into an oracle of paved-road wisdom. She didn’t even have to talk! I just stick this magic box to my windshield and voila, I can get turn-by-turn directions to anywhere in this civilized world. But something happened. Enter – The Smart-Phone.
