Ahoy, me-mates… It be war against P2P all over again, ya-har.
The production company – Voltage – involved in the making of the Oscar winning movie, The Hurt Locker, wants to sue the shit out of everyone who downloaded their shitty movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Voltage has teamed up with the US Copyright Group to target everyone who downloaded without paying.
” After filing the lawsuits, the plaintiffs must subpoena ISP records in an effort to match IP addresses with illicit behavior on BitTorrent. According to lawyers at Dunlap’s firm, 75 percent of ISPs have cooperated fully. Those that have resisted are mostly doing so, they say, because of the amount of work involved in handing over thousands of names.
Of the some 50,000 individuals who have been sued thus far, only three have tried to quash the subpoena. In one instance, a Georgia man tried to invoke the state’s shield law protecting journalists from having to disclose their sources. The judge denied the motion. In another instance, a woman successfully got a court to throw out the subpoena because her IP address wasn’t listed in the original complaint. Unfortunately for her, the complaint was then amended.”
This is the biggest bout of virtual Pirate hunting to date, and WILL surely target individuals who are ready for a fight. I will be following this momentous case; but they always start the same: a) you’re sent a letter for settlement. b) you throw the letter in the garbage. c) you’re sent another letter. d) you toss it. e) they sue you for all your monies, pride, and purplez (<– for Paulywood). No, no one has won outright yet.
Apparently I’m the only one in the entire World who thought The Hurt Locker sucked-ass. I mean, there were good parts, but on the whole – lousy. I would go so far as to say that if this movie didn’t win any awards, there’s no way they’d go after downloaders. They win a little prestige and all of a sudden they want revenue for their lost sales.
My advice if you’re sent a letter – Send them a “single-mom” letter back.
….Good thing I didn’t download this crappy movie.
